How is language different from speech?

Definition of Language: a group of rules that include-

• What a word means
• Word tense (watch, watched, watching)
• Combination of a string of words that convey meaning (sentence: "The boy is playing baseball" vs. "Baseball boy the playing is")
• Word combinations dependent on specific situations ("Would you please move your chair" vs. "Move your chair!")

Definition of speech:

• It is the ability to produce sounds by coordinating and moving specific oral motor structures (e.g., tongue, mouth) at the right time. 

Language and speech problems may coexist and/or exist one without the other.  The problem can be rated on a rating scale of mild to severe.
